Public Records Request - Police
The first step to obtaining a public records request is to complete a Public Records Request form on this webpage or by using the PDF document linked below.
If you opt to print off the Public Record Request PDF form, you may mail the completed form or bring it in person to the Mayor's Office at 5150 N. Post Road Lawrence, Indiana 46226. A City representative will respond to your request within the timeframe established by Ind. Code § 5-14-3-9. If fees are due for record production, arrangements for payment will be made.

Filing a Tort Claim
Pursuant to Indiana law, a claim or suit in tort is barred unless notice is filed with the City of Lawrence within 180 days of your alleged loss. You may make a claim in writing pursuant to Ind. Code § 34-13-3 or print and complete the Notice of Tort Claim form below, including any police reports, photographs, receipts, estimates, or other documentation that supports your claim.

Legal Department
The Department of Law provides in-house legal services and representation to the City of Lawrence and its departments, the Mayor, and various City boards and commissions.
The Department drafts and reviews ordinances, resolutions, contracts, policies, and other legal documents. The Department also maintains custody of the City’s legal records and responds to records requests from members of the public. The Department represents the City and its officials in various legal matters, and manages litigation and tort claims.
